#46. The Rolling Stones - The Rolling Stones (1964)

There's no denying that the debut album by The Rolling Stones is a pivotal moment in rock history. The majority of the album reflects the band's love for R&B material and there's actually only three original compositions to be found here (2 of which are credited to the collective pseudonym Nanker Phelge). The band took a page from the books of Elvis & Sinatra: take a blues tune and make it harder and faster.

London Records released the album in the States as England's Newest Hitmakers and replaced the Bo Diddly cover "Mona" with the Buddy Holly tune (and one of my personal favorites) "Not Fade Away." I would have preferred the US version over the UK version if only for that one song.

This is by no means the best the Stones would have to offer, but I think it still holds up as a raunchy impact to bubblegum pop of the day, even 45 years later.

Favorite Tracks: "Route 66," "I'm A King Bee" and "Carol"
